“See how everything
we have made gathers
the light inside itself
and overflows? A blessing.”
— Stuart Kestenbaum, excerpt from “Holding The Light”
Celebrating the Winter Solstice through visual art and poetry. Sol Invictus was a Roman sun god whose name translates to “Unconquered Sun.” In ancient times winter solstice marked the end of a mythical struggle between dark and light forces. On the longest night of the year, the idea of an “unconquered sun” is compelling and evocative. Twenty-five artists and twelve poets will present their interpretations of this theme. Sol Invictus: The Return of Light will be on view from December 3–January 10, 2925.
