At the Portland Public Library,  artist Alison Rector and Kirk Mohney, director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, join together in celebrating historic Maine public library buildings.  "Rotundas & Reading Rooms: Maine Public Library Architecture and Art" will be presented on Thursday July 14, 5pm to 6:30pm in Meeting Room 5 at the Portland Public LIbrary at 5 Monument Way.

Rector will talk about her work and show images of her newest paintings of public library interiors,  in conjunction with a July 2016 exhibit of oil paintings at Greenhut Galleries in Portland.  Mohney will explain the architectural history of purpose-built public library buildings in Maine while showing photographic images.  Both Rector and Mohney have an aesthetic appreciation for public libraries, as well as a respect libraries' cultural and social role in public life.
